About the Program:

Dr. Brenda Greene discusses with Dr. Keith Gilyard, Louise Thompson Patterson: A Life of Struggle for Justice. Louise Thompson Patterson was a leading and transformative figure in radical African American politics. Greene and Gilyard discuss Patterson’s early years, her interactions and work with writers and activists such as W.E.B. Du Bois, William Patterson, Paul Robeson, Langston Hughes and Richard Wright, and endless determination to work for social justice and workers’ rights. Patterson was an advocate in the Scottsboro Case and the Angela Davis case. Her work is chronicled over each decade for the 20th century.

 

 

About the Author:

Dr. Keith Gilyard is Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English and African American Studies at Pennsylvania State University and the author and editor of numerous books, including True to the Language Game: African American Discourses, Cultural Politics, and Pedagogy and John Oliver Killens: A Life of Black Literary Activism.
